July Presentations: role plays

Role plays are a fun way to learn, to overcome shyness, to develop creative writing skills and to improve pronunciation.

Supervised by the teacher, the students wrote dialogues that covered all grammar and vocabulary topics presented on the six units of the book Postcards 3A and 2A.

video

Role Play's script Postcards 3A:

Two people were talking about football in a restaurant, then the waiter came to the table.

Arthur: Yeah, he is. But I’m hungry, I don’t want to go to another restaurant.

Gustavo: Waiter, please! We want to order now.

Daniel: Ok, so, what do you want?

Arthur: I want a bottle of water and…

Leticia: This dress is too short. And it’s not cool enough.

Thayane: You should try on your black skirt!

Victor: Luiza tries the skirt on with an orange top. The boys come to the door again.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

This was a great year at Learning Center and we wish our staff, our students and their families a beautiful and Merry Christmas and an amazing new year.
See you in 2011!
Glitter Graphics
It's Christmas Time
by Bob Lazzar-Atwood.

Put your problems on probation
Run your troubles off the track,
Throw your worries out the window
Get the monkeys off your back.
Silence all your inner critics
With your conscience make amends,
And allow yourself some happiness
It's Christmas time again!
Call a truce with those who bother you
Let all the fighting cease,
Give your differences a breather
And declare a time of peace,
Don't let angry feelings taint
The precious time you have to spend,
And allow yourself some happiness
It's Christmas time again!
Like some cool refreshing water
Or a gentle summer breeze,
Like a fresh bouquet of flowers
Or the smell of autumn leaves,
It's a banquet for the spirit
Filled with family, food and friends,
So allow yourself some happiness
It's Christmas time again!

Happy Children's Day!

I'd like that every children could grow up knowing that their value as a person doesn't depend on their size, color, sexual orientation or social class.
That they would grow up knowing how to respect differences.
That they would know that the most important thing in life is finding their own way to be happy.
That self love is the most important gift we can offer the world: people that are in peace with themselves can create a better world, offering happiness and love to others.
And that being a child is also a state of mind: even as adults we don't have to lose our innocence, we don't have to lose touch with the pleasure of discovering things, with our dreams and wishes.
If one day I have a kid, that's what I wish for him/her.

Recent events

Last september our team participated in interesting events.
The first one was the TDC Plus , on September 18th.
Piri Szabó made a presentation called "Brain facts: Food for thought!", about new discoveries concerning the brain and the learning process. She also presented important facts regarding the differences between the female and male brains and its implications in the classroom.
Another interesting workshop was presented by Vinícius Nobre: "Beyond songs and games: Involving learners as a teaching strategy ". With simple and fun activities, such as the use of games as part of the planning, not only as entertainment, we can create a fun learning environment. With "hands on" activities he demonstrated how it is possible.
On September 25th, we attended another workshop by Vinicíus Nobre. This time the topic was about something that concerns teen's teachers: how can we keep them motivated to learn? Through simple, but effective activities, usually involving group work, games and music, we had interesting teaching experiences and a fun afternoon.

Happy Valentine's day!

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14th in many countries. It is a day when lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's Cards, flowers, teddy bears, chocolate and candy. All in the name of St. Valentine! But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day — and its patron saint — is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition.
According to the Greeting Card Association in the United States, an estimated one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.)
Approximately 85 percent of all valentines are purchased by women. In addition to the United States and United Kingdom, Valentine's Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, France, and Australia

Great ideas for the teachers from TDC

"Feelthinking: a powerful competence for teenage learners" by José Luis Morales
"Classroom management that works" by Vinícius Nobre
